Student Learning Objectives

  • Students will recall the events of Freedom Summer by arranging a timeline and identify patterns and change as the timeline progresses

  • Students will read through and annotate documents regarding the passing of the Civil Rights and Voting acts of 1965

  • Students will distinguish important leaders in Freedom Summer and those who influenced the passing of Civil Rights legislation and cite evidence as to why these figures are important to know

  • Students will roleplay as important leaders and figures in small groups in order to apply social justice concepts and synthesize logical response through a historical lens
